Importance of a Co-op's Mission on their Practices
From Cultivate.Coop
What do you think is the importance of a co-op’s mission statement? What impact should it have on a co-op's business practices?
It seems like many co-ops (not all, for sure) emphasize some sort of social mission beyond their "basic" purpose of providing income for the worker-owners or products & services for the member/consumer-owners. This is like the 7th of the ICA's cooperative principles, concern for community. In a lot of instances it seems that many mission statements have the purpose of defining exactly what form that "concern for community" takes and can serve as a guide for cooperative members in making decisions about redirecting resources to their respective communities
